Charles Voisin (French, 1685-1761, master 1710)

Charles Voisin, a master clockmaker from Paris, significantly elevated his social and economic status throughout his life. His familial connections and his craftsmanship allowed him to serve an elite clientele, including the royal family and the French aristocracy. Voisin was known for placing his clock movements in exquisite cases, often decorated with porcelain, indicative of the high quality and aesthetic appeal of his work rather than the complexity of the movements themselves. His legacy is also preserved in collections such as that of the Getty Museum.
