This exquisite late 18th-century George III card table, attributed to Moore of Dublin, showcases the refined elegance and masterful craftsmanship characteristic of the period. Fashioned from harewood and satinwood, the table epitomizes the sophisticated use of contrasting woods that was popular among the finest Georgian furniture makers.

The table’s D-shaped top is a testament to the artisan’s skill, featuring a central satinwood fan inlaid with precision. This is beautifully framed by burr yew and rosewood cross banding, which adds depth and richness to the design. The top opens to reveal a playing surface lined with green baize, providing a sumptuous, tactile contrast to the polished exterior woodwork.

Supporting the top is an elegantly designed frieze, veneered in harewood and embellished with classical paterae—a motif inspired by ancient Greek and Roman architecture, adding a touch of neoclassical charm. This frieze not only enhances the table’s aesthetic appeal but also underscores the high level of detail that defines this piece.

The table stands on gracefully tapering legs, further emphasizing its delicate yet sturdy construction. Uniquely, the back legs are crafted as rhomboids, an innovative design choice that provides stability and visual interest, showcasing the inventive spirit and technical proficiency of Moore of Dublin’s workshop.
