Description
These vibrant and animated watercolours are after Guido Reni’s baroque ceiling frescoes, executed circa 1614, for the Casino dell’Aurora at the Palazzo Pallavicini-Rospigliosi, the Borghese palace in Rome. Commissioned by its first occupant and celebrated art collector, Cardinal Scipione Borghese, these frescoes are considered to be Reni’s chef d’oeuvre.
The watercolours depict Apollo in his chariot preceded by Dawn (Aurora) bringing light to the world and Aurora in her chariot.
