Antique William IV Kingwood End Support Library Desk


A rare and very fine William IV kingwood pedestal writing table. The rectangular top with curved corners, fitted with two drawers and two dummies, veneered throughout with kingwood. The top is supported on solid kingwood end supports with a turned stretcher and raised on a platform base with gadrooned bun feet.

Kingwood is a classic antique furniture wood, almost exclusively used for inlays on very fine furniture. It was the most expensive wood in general use for furniture making in the seventeenth century, at which time it was known as Princes wood.
