Bacchus After Michelangelo


Full-size Bronze Statue of Bacchus after the original by Michelangelo of 1497, regarded at the time as a significant diversion from the classic depiction of Bacchus, the original of this figure was made for Cardinal Riario for the Palazzo Cancelleria but was purchased by the banker Galli who placed it in his garden where Maerten van Heemskerck drew it – with a broken arm.
