George I

George I was the King of Great Britain and Ireland from 1714 until his death in 1727. He was born in Hanover, Germany in 1660, and was the first British monarch of the House of Hanover. George I was known for his strong sense of duty and commitment to the rule of law. He was an experienced ruler, having previously served as the Elector of Hanover from 1698 until 1714.

During his reign, he was able to maintain a strong relationship with Parliament, as well as successfully navigate the politics of the day. He was also able to bring stability to Great Britain and Ireland, and was an important figure in the development of the British Empire. George I was a popular monarch, and his death was mourned throughout the kingdom.

The George I style was popularised during the reign of King George I of England in the early 1700s. This Georgian style of furniture is characterised by its ornate, intricate designs, often featuring curved lines, strapwork and detailed carvings. The furniture was typically made from walnut and mahogany and often featured inlaid veneers and marquetry, and needlework.

Common pieces of George I furniture included chairs, tables, cabinets, desks, and mirrors. This style of furniture was popular for its luxurious look and was often used to decorate the palaces and houses of the British elite.
