German Baroque

It was in Germany in the 17th and 18th centuries that the Baroque style began to flourish. French and Italian Baroque elements influenced German Baroque, which was originally produced to demonstrate Catholic power in the south to Protestants in the north. There were many types and styles of furniture during this time period, including cabinets, tables, seating, chests, and wardrobes, which all became more elaborate and ornamental. It is not uncommon for some furniture forms to feature architectural details, particularly those made in northern Germany.
