An exceptionally rare early 18th century corner cupboard decorated in polychrome japanning of red tulips, roses and floral details on a white and yellow ground. The central scene with a vase of flowers on a blue ledge. Provenance by repute the Walpole Family, Houghton Hall.
England, Circa 1680

By repute made in Norfolk for the Walpole family. Decorated with tulips and roses by Dutch Huguenot emigres. The cabinet retains its original paint surface, lock and key. It has never been offered for sale.

Walpole family to Anthony Hammond thence by decent and a gift in 1960’s to the present owner.
