An exceptional 19th-century guéridon center table, the blue John top veneered in radiating circles with alternate bands of lemon spa giving the appearance of a spider’s web, the whole supported on a gilt bronze pedestal base with twisting boldly cast acanthus leaves, further decorated with ornament, standing on 3 paw feet.

Blue John – A rare and decorative form of fluorspar unique to Derbyshire, England, notable for its distinctive bands of purple, blue, and yellow. Highly prized since the 18th century, it was traditionally fashioned into urns, vases, and jewellery, often mounted in ormolu or fine furniture. Today, Blue John remains sought after for its rarity, translucence, and strong association with British decorative arts.
