Cesare Roccheggiani was a master of micromosaic art in late 19th-century Rome, renowned for his intricate depictions of Roman landmarks that captivated English and American Grand Tourists. Trained in the Vatican workshops from 1856 to 1864, he later established his own studio on Via Condotti, where he produced exquisite pieces such as a micromosaic table featuring St. Peter’s Square surrounded by iconic views of the city. Roccheggiani’s work is marked by extraordinary detail, vibrant materials, and a deep reverence for Rome’s artistic heritage. Part of a distinguished family of mosaicists, he carried forward and elevated this tradition, drawing inspiration from artists like Michelangelo Barberi while forging his own path. His legacy endures as a testament to the beauty and cultural richness of Italian craftsmanship.
