- A Chinese export lacquer bureau on stand decorated with an unusual polychrome flower design
- This Chinese lacquer Bureau on Stand was made in China in the mid-18th century, circa 1750
- Its design comes from Western prototypes and adapted in the Chinese style
- Acquired in country house condition, we found the thick French varnish had discoloured, muting the rich and vibrant colours below.
- Thankfully we have been able to remove the varnish without affecting the layers of lacquer below.
- Further cabinet work was carried out to check the carcass and general condition.
- Being so prominent, it is very rare to find a Chinese lacquer toilet mirror of this date still intact.
