A Late Regency Brass Inlaid Side Cabinet — Cabinet Furniture

This late Regency brass inlaid side cabinet exemplifies the exquisite craftsmanship and stylistic flourish characteristic of English furniture during the early nineteenth century. Combining the opulence of Boulle marquetry with the refined sensibilities of the William IV era, it is a distinguished addition to any collection of antique storage cabinets & lockers.

Origin: England

Date: Circa 1830

Material: Rosewood with brass inlay; fossil marble top (likely later)

Dimensions: Height 91.5 cm (36 inches), Width 122 cm (48 inches), Depth 35.5 cm (14 inches)

Condition: Excellent brass inlay; minor restorations; replacement fossil marble top in keeping with the period

This fine example draws on the celebrated Boulle manner, developed in seventeenth-century France by André-Charles Boulle and revived with fervour during the Regency period. English cabinet makers such as Parker and Le Gaigneur were acclaimed for popularising this marquetry, and the present piece, with both partie and contra-partie boulle technique, strongly evokes the work of Town and Emanuel — renowned figures in Regency and William IV furniture. Distinctive for its intricate brass decoration around the doors, this piece is reminiscent of celebrated examples held in major museum collections.

Notable Features:

  • Superb brass inlay with both partie and contra-partie boulle, particularly striking around the cabinet doors
  • Elegant rosewood casework, displaying refined Regency symmetry and an adherence to Neoclassical decorative restraint
  • Unusual fossil marble top, lending further distinction and practical utility, despite being a probable later addition
  • Rare opportunity to own a period William IV cabinet showcasing the intersection of English taste and continental opulence

Collectors will appreciate the rarity and integrity of this Regency brass inlaid side cabinet, which stands as a testament to the era’s passion for continental techniques and luxury materials. With its rich patina, meticulous marquetry, and historic scale, it is perfectly suited to enhance a period drawing room, anchor a sophisticated study, or crown a curated collection of antique cabinet furniture. This item is both a practical storage solution and a highly desirable statement piece for discerning interiors.
