A pair of Japanese Jyôka giltwood temple lotus flower vases, Edo period (1603-1912), 19th century, the finely carved and gilded lotus flowers and leaves with raised gesso details, fitted into bronze vases.

Each vase features 8 finely carved and gilded lotus flowers and leaves, adorned with intricate raised gesso details. The lotus flowers, depicted at various stages of their life cycle, symbolise the profound journey towards Buddhist enlightenment—a journey of growth, purity, and spiritual awakening.
