This particular mirror, a marvel of its time, features its original split, engraved, and hand-beveled mercury mirror plates—a technique that was both innovative and exceedingly rare, reflecting the cutting-edge artistic advancements of the era. The plates were set within borders of gilt metal fillets, their lustrous finish providing a stark, opulent contrast to the extremely slim giltwood frames that encased them. The main mirror plate, deliberately split into two to overcome the limitations of the production process, bore the upper section adorned with fine scallop edging and deeply engraved foliate detailing, elements that showcased the meticulous attention to detail and the high level of skill of its creators.
