19th-century Giltwood Throne Armchair. The design is attributed to William Kent and likely made by Thomas Ponsonby and Son.
England

Height : 129 cms (50.5 ins)
Width: 72.4 cms (28.5 ins)
Depth : 66.5 cms (26.2 ins)

The design of this armchair is truly magnificent, and it has been traditionally reupholstered in the finest Embroidered Cut Silk Velvet. The x-frame design used by William Kent was probably a vestigial manifestation of a sixteenth-century English or Italian throne chair, adding to its historical significance. The gilding has been expertly refreshed, and it is in excellent condition, making it a rare find for collectors and enthusiasts alike.

There are comparative 18th-century thrones and stools in the Royal Collection at Hampton Court Palace that were also designed by William Kent and made by Henry Williams. Additionally, an armchair supplied by Kent to Chatsworth House is another excellent example of his exceptional talent and design skills.
