Depicting the fable of the crow and snake. In ancient times, this fable was found only in Greek sources, and it tells about a crow in search of food who discovers a snake asleep in the shade. However, when the crow seizes her, the snake kills it with her venomous bite. The moral of the story is that good fortune is not necessarily what it seems. Here the story is carved in limewood and detailed in gesso and water gilt with gold leaf.
