A fine mid 18th-century apothecary case, the exterior in black fine-grained shagreen and silver lock plate, the interior with 6 glass bottles, all intact.

A travelling doctors apothecary box such as ours would have been reassuring for the ill, its beautiful exterior with silver mounts and precise cut glass bottles surely gave confidence in the contents and the doctors’ capacity to help the ill. Clearly, a box such as this was suited only to a successful doctor with affluent clients.
