
Robert Rigot was a French sculptor celebrated for his mastery of diverse materials, including bronze and crystal. Born in Buxy into a family of stonecutters, he went on to study at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1954, he won the prestigious Prix de Rome and continued his training at the Villa Medici in Rome from 1955 to 1959.
From 1966 to 1996, Rigot served as an artistic advisor to Baccarat, where his crystal creations earned him international recognition. In 1990, he was awarded the Grand Prize of the Council of Europe for his contributions to crystal art.
Rigot passed away in Chalon-sur-Saône at the age of 93, leaving behind a legacy of innovation and refinement in 20th-century French sculpture and decorative arts.
