After Michelangelo Buonarrotti (1475-1564)

This famous seated statue is a reduction from the tomb of Giuliano di Lorenzo de Medici who sits opposite Lorenzo de Medici.

Height 20.5 inches Width 7 inches Depth 8 inches

This figure of Giuliano de Medici is a reduction taken directly from the life-size original in the New Sacristy, St Lorenzo, Florence. The detailed surface is finely worked and chased by the master bronziers, the surface with a rich original patina of dark browns and ruby reds complete the striking detail of this bronze statue.

In situ, he sits in a niche above the reclining mannerist figures of Day and Night.

France, circa 1880
