This 4ft wide 19th-century Indian ebonised saddle rack stand is a truly remarkable piece.

Standing at a height of 124 cm and with a width of 122 cm, it commands attention with its impressive size and presence. The depth of 68 cm ensures that it can hold multiple horse saddles or other items securely.

The saddle stand is crafted with exquisite attention to detail. Its profusely carved scroll feet are adorned with intricate foliate details, showcasing the skill and craftsmanship of the artisans who created it. These scrolls serve as sturdy supports for the two steel rails, which run parallel to each other. The opposing S scroll supports add a touch of elegance to the design.

Dating back to the mid-19th century, this equestrian saddle rack bears the distinct style of Anglo-Indian furniture, which combines elements of both Indian and British design. It reflects the cultural exchange that took place during the colonial period.

What truly sets this antique saddle rack stand apart is its status as a statement piece. With its dramatic and bold carved classical details, it exudes a sense of grandeur and opulence. Acanthus leaves, a hallmark of classical architecture, are intricately carved into the wood, along with Empire motifs on the stretcher. These elements contribute to the overall majestic aesthetic of the piece.

The combination of its size, elaborate carvings, and luxurious design make it fitting for a Maharaja’s palace stables. Its presence would undoubtedly enhance the grandeur of any room it occupies, adding a touch of history and regal splendor to the stables. This saddle rack serves not only as a functional item but also as a testament to the rich craftsmanship and cultural heritage of 19th-century India.
