  • Modeled after an ancient Roman marble vase discovered at Hadrians Villa, Tivoli, circa 1771
  • The original was discovered by Gavin Hamilton, he was a Scottish antique dealer based in Rome, he was also an artist and antiquarian
  • Hamilton sold the vase to Sir William Hamilton, who in turn sold it to George Greville, 2nd Earl of Warwick
  • It is now housed in the Burrell Collection, Scotland
  • The Warwick vase was one of the most sought after Grand Tour Souvenirs
  • It is seen in marble, serpentine, alabaster, cast iron, and bronze
  • This version by an unknown sculptor shows exceptional carving and unusual quality of detail
