One of a group of four similar pottery vases, later converted to table lamps. Of generous globular form with a short neck and gently everted rim, the vase is covered in a rich cobalt-blue glaze that varies subtly in tone across the surface, creating an appealing depth of colour. Areas of darker glaze pooling and natural firing variations enhance the handmade character of the piece.
Chinese, 19th–20th century
The simple, well-balanced silhouette draws attention to the intensity of the blue glaze, which recalls traditional Chinese monochrome wares and provincial pottery traditions. The surface displays an attractive patina acquired through age and use, with minor wear around the rim and foot revealing the underlying ceramic body.
The shade shown as an example only.
