A decorative Chinese stoneware vase of compressed baluster form, later converted to a table lamp. The body is covered in a rich turquoise-green glaze with an attractive craquelure surface and decorated with moulded octagonal cartouches enclosing stylised floral and foliate motifs rendered in dark slip. The restrained decoration, framed by geometric borders, creates a pleasing contrast against the luminous green ground.

The vase displays the appealing irregularities associated with traditional workshop production, including subtle variations in glaze tone, firing effects and areas of natural wear. The glaze deepens towards the lower body, pooling around the foot where the underlying earthenware body becomes visible. The floral motifs, likely inspired by lotus, orchid or iris forms, are executed with a confident simplicity characteristic of provincial Chinese decorative wares.
Later mounted as a table lamp with brass fittings and shown with a contemporary linen shade as an example.
