A handsome Chinese stoneware vase of ovoid form, later converted to a table lamp. The body is covered in a vibrant turquoise-green glaze with an attractive crackled surface, the decoration comprising moulded panel borders enclosing incised floral motifs and a stylised calligraphic character, all subtly revealed beneath the translucent glaze.

Qing Dynasty, 19th century

The shade shown as an example only.
Country specific wiring is completed after purchase.

Dimensions (vase):
Height: 32.5 cm
Diameter: 21.5 cm
Base diameter: 16 cm

The vase exhibits the appealing irregularities associated with traditional workshop production, including variations in colour, kiln effects and areas of glaze pooling around the lower body. The soft green glaze ranges from pale celadon tones to deeper emerald hues, highlighting the moulded decoration and lending the surface considerable depth and character. Areas of wear around the rim and foot expose the underlying stoneware body, reinforcing the vase's age and utilitarian origins.
