A very unusual mid 19th century carved ebony workbox for the export market from Southern Ceylon with a highly pronounced scalloped outline, the top, and sides carved in high relief with floral and foliate detail on a stamped ground. Opening to a void with brass hinges and mounts, the inside lid with carved foliate ornament.
