A striking pair of nineteenth century cloisonné vases, now mounted as table lamps, each of flattened baluster form with elegant straight-sided necks rising above broad rounded bodies. The turquoise grounds are richly decorated with scrolling foliage, lotus blossoms, chrysanthemums, and stylised floral ornament, all executed in finely worked enamel and contained within delicate gilt wirework borders.
China, late 19th century.

The intricate cloisonné decoration possesses remarkable density and rhythm, recalling the refined decorative arts produced for the export and imperial markets during the late nineteenth century. When illuminated, the vivid enamels acquire exceptional warmth and luminosity beneath silk shades, while the sculptural forms lend the lamps a strong architectural presence.
Equally effective within traditional interiors or more eclectic layered schemes, the pair bring both colour and refinement to consoles, bedside tables, or drawing room arrangements.
