An unusual Art Deco cast iron occasional table by Thonet, the tapering hexagonal column retaining its original green-painted finish and terminating in a striking red-painted tripod base with stepped ridged decoration. The table is now fitted with an octagonal black slate top, which complements the bold geometric character of the design.

Signed THONET within the casting to the stem.

Austria, circa 1930.

Height: 28 inches
Top diameter: 20 inches

Founded in Vienna in 1853, Thonet became one of the most influential furniture makers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Celebrated for refining and industrialising the bentwood technique, the firm transformed modern furniture production through elegant, functional forms and exceptional craftsmanship. By the 1930s, Thonet had grown into one of the largest furniture manufacturers in the world, with designs such as the celebrated Model No. 14 café chair achieving enduring icon status.
