Georgian Splendour

Georgian splendour embodies an era of remarkable elegance and refined taste, spanning the entire 18th century across Britain. With distinctive characteristics of symmetry and classicism, the Georgian styles reflect a profound admiration for the ancient civilizations of Greece and Rome, which greatly influenced the period’s aesthetic ideals.

Georgian splendour lies not just in its visual grandeur but in the timeless quality of its design, making it a coveted period for collectors and connoisseurs alike.

Period beauty

Early 19th century British visitors to Ceylon revelled in the great proficiency of the local craftsmen. It was noted that they were exceptionally good at working wood, gold and silver. J. W. Bennett noted in 1843 the local workers could produce numerous designs of chairs and cabinet furniture of every description.
