Ince & Mayhew

There are many international museums and stately homes featuring furniture produced by Ince & Mayhew. The London cabinetmaking firm is renowned as one of the most significant of the eighteenth century.

A formal agreement was signed by William Ince and John Mayhew on 16th January 1759; they agreed to a 21-year partnership to begin on 25th December 1758.  It lasted for some 40 years until they agreed to end their partnership in 1799.  During that period, they produced a great deal of furniture that was of exceptional quality, notably, often with excellent marquetry. Much of their work features exotic and hard-to-source timbers imported from across the globe. These include Satinwood and Rosewood.

Among their contemporaries were Thomas Chippendale, John Linnell, Thomas Sheraton, and George Hepplewhite.
