This stunning circular wall mirror, originating from Italy, circa 1980, showcases the era’s unique style and exemplifies the fusion of artistic expression and functional design.

Design and Features

The 1980s Cabochon Wall Mirror boasts a diameter of 91 cm, making it an eye-catching centerpiece that demands attention in any room. Its circular shape symbolises continuity and unity, reflecting the progressive spirit of the late 20th century. The clever combination of 26 circular mirrored glass cabochons forming the frame border offers an element of intricacy and creativity while maintaining an elegant line. These cabochons add glamour to the mirror, capturing and reflecting light in a unexpected manner.

The centerpiece of the mirror features a main central mirror plate with a beveled border, adding an additional layer of refinement and elegance to the design. The beveled edges not only enhance the mirror’s aesthetic appeal but also contribute to the play of light, creating an alluring display of reflections.

Late 20th Century Furniture Design

The late 20th century was an era marked by the breaking of design conventions and embracing a more eclectic and innovative approach to furniture design. This period witnessed a strong focus on minimalism, simplicity, and functionality. Designers sought to incorporate cutting-edge materials and techniques while combining them with traditional craftsmanship.

The 1980s Cabochon Wall Mirror embodies these design principles, blending the traditional concept of mirrors with a contemporary twist. The clever use of mirrored glass cabochons in the frame border challenges the norms of conventional mirror design, demonstrating the era’s eagerness to experiment and create something truly unique.

The Influence of Italian Design

Italy has long been renowned for its contributions to the world of design, and this Cabochon Wall Mirror is no exception. Italian design has always been characterised by a keen attention to detail, elegance, and a sense of timeless beauty. The mirror’s intricate frame, crafted from circular mirrored glass cabochons, echoes the finesse and sophistication commonly associated with Italian design.

The mirror’s circular form also pays homage to the iconic artistic movements that have originated from Italy, such as Renaissance frescoes and Roman mosaics. The marriage of traditional Italian design elements with the contemporary circular mirror concept showcases how the late 20th-century designers drew inspiration from their cultural heritage while pushing the boundaries of modern design.
