An antique Red Tole Charles X Bullseye Wall Clock with a white face and black hands, encased in a round, ornate red and gold floral art patterned holder. The clock has a brass winding crown at the top.

Red Tole Wall Clock

This Charles X Bullseye Wall Clock is a captivating work of art, embodying the stylistic finesse of early 19th-century French design. The clock, crafted around 1830, is shaped like a pocket watch—a whimsical nod to personal timepieces of the era. What makes this wall clock truly unique is its large brass hanging ring, a dramatic accent that lends the piece both gravitas and character.

The clock body is finished in a sumptuous red lacquer, which serves as a rich backdrop for intricate giltwork. Masterfully applied, the gold detailing takes the form of trailing vines that sinuously wind their way around the clock’s periphery. The vines exude a sense of organic fluidity, appearing almost as though they are creeping around the clock face in a slow dance with time itself.

Central to the clock is its pristine white enamel dial, set within a lavish mount of gilt bronze. The glossy white surface offers a clean canvas that accentuates the Roman numerals etched onto it. These numerals are not merely functional but artistic, each one a mini-masterpiece that stands as a testament to the craftsmanship of the period. They are showcased behind the original glass, which has managed to stand the test of time, remaining clear and free from blemish.

Adding another layer of beauty are the clock’s blued steel hands. Exceptionally fine, these hands catch the light in a way that imparts different shades of blue and violet, depending on your angle of view. Their subtle brilliance is both captivating and serves as a functional means to ensure accurate reading of the time.

Further enhancing its vintage authenticity the enamel dial has holes specifically designed for winding keys. These apertures are not merely decorative; they remain true to the clock’s operational character, reminding us of a time when winding a clock was a daily ritual imbued with significance.

With a diameter of 15 inches, this Charles X Bullseye Wall Clock is substantial enough to be a focal point in any room while maintaining an air of understated elegance. It is not merely a timekeeping device but a piece of history—carefully preserved and remarkably beautiful. This French artifact captures the essence of its era and the meticulous craftsmanship that went into its creation, making it a timeless heirloom and a luxurious addition to any home or collection.
